Today's reading in John Piper's "The Dawning of Indestructible Joy " is full of simple reminders that Christmas is about Jesus.
Even trying to stay away from the consumerism and focus on the story of Christ, I can still miss the depths of what it really meant for Jesus to leave perfect community with God the Father and come to earth as a baby.
Dr. Piper quotes Hebrews 1 : 3 -
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature...
Because Jesus is the exact imprint of God the Father, He deserves to be worshipped. To be honored. To be glorified. However, He left His throne to become a servant, as Mark 10:45 says. To become despised and rejected (Isaiah 53:2-4).
But why? Ultimately, He did it for His glory and our good. He became the only ransom that could pay for people's sin.
To whom did He pay that ransom?
The answer is one with many implications. He paid the ransom for our sins to God Himself (1 Peter 1:17-19).
See You In The Round!
