I Am Known

I Corinthians 13 : 12
"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known."

God knows my inmost being (Psalm 139:13-14). He knows me better than my closest family members and friends. He knows me better than I know myself.

In Psalm 139, David writes that God knows him fully. Verses 2-4 state: “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”

He knows every action we do, every word we say, and every thought we think. He knows it before we do! It’s a scary, overwhelming, and amazing concept!

To be fully known by God means that my identity is in Him.

God knows us so well that we can’t even hide from Him.  David reminds us of that as he continues his Psalm in chapter 139, verses 7-12 and 15-16:

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,“ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you…My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Knowing that God knows my inmost being is a scary, yet awesome thought. How can someone know me better than I know myself?!

I was 9 when I prayed to Jesus, asking Him into my heart. I asked Him to forgive my sins and agreed to follow Him. It’s hard to believe that it has been 19 years since I became a Christian.

...even as I have been fully known.
— 1 Corinthians 13 : 12

I rededicated my life to Christ on multiple occasions at youth retreats and mission trips over the years as the fire and excitement were rekindled. I am constantly changing and growing in God’s word.

Faith in Christ is an ongoing journey. Understanding that God knows everything about me and loves me is a wonderful feeling. To be fully known by God means that my identity is in Him.  I find peace in that understanding.

My ongoing prayer comes from Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Only the One who knows me inside and out can search and know my heart that intimately. Our God is good and loves His people.  This truth changes everything.
