He is Faithful
Galatians 2 : 20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me.
I asked Christ into my heart at a young age, though sometimes I wonder if I truly knew what it meant to be a Christian at the age of 9. Sometimes I wonder if I know what it means to be a Christian at the age of 28, 19 years later after I accepted Christ. Each day brings new challenges, new lessons.
By living in faith, I trust and lean on God. My sinful heart still struggles to trust and obey, but what Christian doesn’t face the challenges of faith and obedience?
God is faithful. Faithfulness is one of the fruits of the spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23, NIV).
What is faithfulness? Faithfulness is: reliability, loyalty, consistency, integrity, constancy, truthful, assuredness, and stability. God shows his perfect faithfulness through all of these.
In my very first post at LITR, I shared how I stepped out in faith to move 1-1/2 hours away from home for a new job. As much as satan tried to persuade me not to go, I obeyed this call from God and stepped out in faith. Yes, I was anxious; yes, I worried, but I trusted God. Without faith, I probably would have let my anxiety get the best of me.
In Proverbs, we are instructed to, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:3-6).
When I live by faith in Christ, I don’t let my fears get the best of me. I give them to God and follow Him. I am not perfect though. Yes, satan still tempts me, and I am sinful, but God's Word reminds me in Proverbs 16:6 that “through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.”
