Fighting Sin

Romans 6 : 12-13
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

Sin is a reality, but it doesn't have to be our ruler. Jesus did not die for our sin so that we could live like dead people until we see the gates of heaven. Ladies, he died so that we could live in freedom. Both in the glory of heaven and here on earth.

Galatians 5 : 1
It is for freedom that we are set free.

Deny Self and Chose Life.

If you know Christ you know he is better than anything here on earth can offer. Because he is better and wants us to experience the depth of that love he has for us, he tells us to deny ourselves the desires of our flesh (Matthew 16:24). Those things that deep down we know are not good for us, but seem like they will fulfill something that we need or want.

In Ephesians 4:22-24 Paul reminds us “to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” The more we practice choosing righteousness and deny our flesh of those sinful desires the easier and easier it becomes.

Run From Sin and Chose Life.

We all know the temptations that have the tendency to capture our thoughts and actions. Ladies, put on your running shoes because the Bible tells us to set aside our sin and run (Hebrews 12:11). To escape the snare of the devil we are told to flee from our youthful passions (2 Timothy 2:22). You better believe if I could physically see the way the devil is on my heels, trying to pull me into hell that I would be ruuuunnning from him!

Present yourself to God as someone
who has been brought from death to life.
— from Romans 6:13

So, let’s RUN! Even if it means literally! Let’s stop putting ourselves into situations that we know will be tempting. Say no to that man that you know is bad news, know what causes you sin in your anger, set up accountability software on your computer, take a break from social media, don’t get into the conversations that always lead to gossip, or allow yourself to stay in a selfish state. Do not let the weight of your sin keep holding you down so that you are unable to run.

Don't Do It Alone and Chose Life.

The gift of church community is on purpose. Resist the temptation to avoid people. When you are struggling, call upon your sisters in Christ to bear your burdens with you. Attend small group gatherings to remember that you are not in this alone.

And When You Fall Short... Chose Life.

Do not live with the weight of your guilt. Confess and receive forgiveness. Remember, it is for freedom that you have been set free.

1 John 1 : 9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
