It’s 5 am.
God, I hate 5 am. Am I cursing or actually talking to God? It’s too early to even figure it out.
Now I’m outside with the dogs. The moon and stars are still out.
I need to go back to sleep.
Why don’t you spend time with the Creator of that moon and those stars (Psalm 8:3-4)?
I can later. I have all day.
Do you (James 4:14-15)?
But sleep is so good.
My Word says, “How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?” for a
reason (Proverbs 6 : 9). I am better.
But I haven’t planned out what to read. Your Word isn’t a fortune cookie, God.
No, but it is sweeter than honey (Psalm 119:103) and is to be tasted (Psalm 34:8). You can’t go wrong.
My Word won’t return void (Isaiah 55:11).
I’m so tired. My bed is warm.
Do you do this when spending time with anyone else that you love?
It is by My Grace that you can even spend time with me (Hebrews 4:16).
No, but at least they wait until -
Until there are a million things pulling at your attention. Spend time with me in the quiet (Isaiah 30:15).
Alright, I’m up. What do I do?
What?! You got me up to…be still?!
Make your prayer, “Lead me in your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation;
for You I wait all the day long” (Psalm 25 : 5).
What am I waiting for?
Listen for my voice.
As I read Scripture, I hear You, Lord.
These are my words (Psalm 12:6, Psalm 18:30).
I see You as a powerful King (Revelation 17:14), yet You love me (Psalm 8:4).
It’s true. I am Ruler of all creation (Colossians 1:16). But you are so precious to me that when I made you,
I BREATHED life inside of you (Genesis 2:7).
I don’t know whether to fear You or call You friend.
Do both. I am to be feared but I am your true Friend (Deuteronomy 6:13, John 15:13).
Lord, You really are mighty. I want to give You everything in worship (Matthew 16:25).
Give me everything (Romans 11:36).
God, live through me. I want my life to reflect You.
I hear the kids stirring, Lord. I have to go.
No, you GET to go. Go serve. I am sending you out (Matthew 28:19-20).
God, I know I can talk to You throughout the day, but can we do this again tomorrow?
You are going to hate getting up again – at first.
No, I won’t (Matthew 26:33-34).
See you tomorrow morning, my daughter (Hosea 6:3).
