A Toledo FBI agent, recently quoted a pimp saying, “Particularly with young girls, if you promise them heaven, they will follow you to hell.” My heart absolutely shattered when I read that. Girls as young as 10 years old are manipulated, brutally beaten, raped, threatened, and endangered continually day in and day out. It’s a crime that is completely entangled in two of the most desired things in this world: sex and money.

Too Close For Comfort

I live in Toledo, Ohio. I have for my entire life. A few years back, research revealed that Toledo was the NUMBER ONE city for human trafficking per capita. It’s not just something that occurs overseas or in movies, it exists in my backyard

Ashley’s recent post resonated with me. It is often times too painful for me to think about the injustice occurring in my own city. When this data was revealed, I instantly wanted to do something to help. But how was I supposed to go about ending the second largest organized crime independently? I couldn’t turn my back and pretend that it doesn’t exist. So, I got involved in a local organization offering awareness and recovery for victims of human trafficking. It’s called The Daughter Project.

It’s More Than Supporting An Organization

On my drive to work, I pass an “Adult Store”. Every day, I get enraged when I see the sign, realizing how sexualized today’s culture is. EVERYWHERE I turn, there is sexual content. From billboards and advertisements, to Netflix and novels.

It’s everywhere, and whether you want to or not, you’ll run into it.

I learned through the Daughter Project that human trafficking actually sustains pornography, which is a multi-billion dollar industry. The industry is a system completely generated by supply and demand. As long as there is a demand (consumers of pornography), there will always be a supply. By entering adult websites and purchasing sexual material, you are creating a demand. You are directly encouraging the production of filmed prostitution and encouraging human trafficking to exist.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” –Romans 12:2

Stop looking at porn. You are filling the wallets of pimps and directors. You are encouraging slavery.
Stop accepting our cultures view on porn, that “everyone does it”.
Stop relying on this world’s pleasures to fulfill you.
Stop justifying your lack of activism.

Start fighting against Satan’s temptation.
Start seeking opportunities to fight against injustice.
Start seeking God to be your ultimate fulfillment.
Start praying for prostitutes and pimps, men and women, girls and boys that are trapped in slavery.

What Now?

If you have the same passion in your heart as I do (to put an end to the human trafficking and sex trade industry), stop supporting the sexualized culture we live in and become a voice for those who don’t have one.

See you in the round,

PS-Toledo is fourth in the nation for the most arrests and prosecutions of human trafficking. Progress is being made to end this tragic crime! Praise The Lord!
