The Thief of Joy
Comparison is the thief of joy.
YES! This is how I am feeling at the moment. Freaked out by comparison to other speakers, authors, moms, leaders, women, people...
That is when I took a deep breath and remembered that it is NOT about me. I have God’s story to share. It is a lesson that must be learned time and time again. As Louisa stated in "The Beauty of Happiness", it has nothing to do with a list of credentials, a more than “healthy” figure, my hair, experience or my own plan of my speaking and writing engagements.
I began to listen to what God had breathed into my spirit through Psalm 46:10.
“Be still and know that I am God.”
It is not about me. It never was about me and never will be. Right here in our midst, a baby on the hip, taking your lunch break, dealing with a cranky customer, teaching, grabbing your coffee as you head out the door to your next meeting, married, divorced, single, pregnant. Friends, this moment is NOT ABOUT US. It never was and never will be.
When I allow the fear of failure to overtake the grandness of God, evil wins. When I allow myself to trust God with all of me and let Him write my story, lives are changed in the goodness of God’s love.
I am a dreamer.
I believe that we can set our sights on things unseen and hope for them. I like to dream BIG, pray BIGGER and throw myself into the hard work it takes to fulfill what God has called me to do.
What about you? In what way is God trying to stretch you today? It does not have to be grandiose. It can be as simple as saying hello to the cashier that is ringing you out at the store.
For me, God is asking me to write a book and speak on our adoption in Him. I could sit around comparing myself to everyone else. Instead, I am going to remember that He is God and I am not. I will allow Him to stretch me beyond who I think I am and rest in who He is.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” –John 10:10
I want to encourage you today to not be hindered by comparison. Rest in Him and live life to the fullest TODAY my friends!
See You in the Round!
